RYA Competent Crew Course

In collaboration with the RYA Center MT Sail & Power we offer the RYA Competent Crew  Course in Barcelona.

The RYA Competent Crew is a fun course for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. Virtually all the course is hands on. We spend 5 days (2 weekends) onboard. During we will explore ports and anchorages. You will experience life on a yacht. You are the crew – without you the sails will not go up leave the Dock or be steered!

Assumed knowledge: none

Course content: Knowledge of sea terms and parts of a boat, her rigging and sails, sail handling, ropework, fire precautions and fighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard, emergency equipment, meteorology, helmsmanship, general duties, manners and customs, rules of the road, and using the dinghy. We even talk about how to manage seasickness.

A lot of the course is learning how as part of a team, to tie up in a harbour, set the sails, anchor in a bay for lunch and many more skills. There is still time for swim stops and relaxing on board.

Ability after the course: Able to steer a yacht, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy, and assist in all the day to day routines of yacht duties. You become a valuable member of the crew.
