The RYA Competent Crew is a fun course for beginners and those who want to become active crew members rather than just passengers. Almost the entire course is hands-on. We spend 5 days on board. During that time, we'll explore ports and anchorages. You'll experience life on a yacht.You will be the crew. Without you, the sails won't set and the boat won't leave the dock or be steered!
You don't need to worry about your knowledge of the sea. In this course, all you need is a strong desire to learn and have a great time.
If you don't have extensive knowledge about sailing yet, this is your course.
You'll learn in English, everything you need to know to start sailing.
Basic knowledge of maritime terms and parts of a boat, handling sails, ropes, precautions and firefighting, personal safety equipment, man overboard procedures, emergency equipment, meteorology, etiquette, customs, and rules of navigation. We'll even discuss how to overcome seasickness.
A significant portion of the course involves learning how to be part of a team, docking in a port, setting sail, anchoring in a bay for lunch, and many more skills. There's always time for swimming and relaxing on board.
After completing this course, you'll be able to steer a yacht, handle sails, row a dinghy, and assist in all the daily routines and duties on the yacht. You'll become a valuable member of the crew.
