Start Yachting Course:
Pre-course experience: None
Assumed knowledge: None
Course content: The yacht, ropework, underway, rules of the road, man overboard recovery, clothing and equipment, emergency equipment and precaution, meteorology
Ability after the course: Basic knowledge of yachting
Min duration: 2 Days
Minimum age: None
The RYA Start Yachting course is a two-day fun introductory course to sailing for complete beginners.
Competent Crew Course
The RYA Competent Crew is a fun course for beginners and those who would like to become active crew members rather than just passengers. Virtually all the course is hands on. You are the crew – without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t be steered! Course length 5 days.

Day Skipper Course
The RYA Day Skipper Sail training course teaches pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling to the standard required to skipper a small sailing yacht up to 24 meters safely by day in (non tidal) waters with which the student is familiar.

Coastal Skipper Course
The RYA Coastal Skipper practical course is the steppingstone between Day Skipper and the full RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Coastal Certificate of Competence.
Students should have theory knowledge to the level of RYA Coastal Yachtmaster and preferably hold a RYA Day Skipper Practical Course completion certificate. The course is aimed at enhancing existing skippering skills so it is important you are a competent sailor.

Yachtmaster Coastal Course
The RYA Yachtmaster Coastal Sail training course is for the more ambitious skipper to improve their skills, take charge and learn to make full use of the boat on longer, more complex passages.
Before taking the Yachtmaster Coastal Sail course it is highly advised to have attended the shorebased RYA Theory course, to ensure that you have relevant knowledge whilst on-board. An important aspect of this course is learning to take command and made decisions resulting in relaxed, well-planned passages and a happy crew.

Yachtmaster Offshore Course
The RYA Yachtmaster Certificate of Competence is often the ultimate aim of aspiring skippers. It is a well known, highly respected qualification worldwide, proving your experience and competence as a skipper. The RYA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence can used commercially in its own right. It is also a pre-requisite for the MCA’s Officer of the Watch qualification, which enables you to work worldwide on vessels of up to 3000gt.

Yachtmaster Ocean Course
The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean Theory course looks at passage planning, astro-navigation and worldwide meteorology,as well as exploring and solving the mysteries of the use of a sextant!
The RYA Yachtmaster Ocean certificate is also a pre-requisite for the MCA’s Chief Mate, Master 500 and Master 3000 qualifications.
